| Globally recognized great visionary, Nehru was proud son of J&K: Azad | | | Jammu, Nov 14 Unprecedented gathering at Maulana Azad Stadium marked the Children’s Day celebration here today. The grandeur of the function was first of its kind so far. Enthusiastic participation by a large number of children from different schools, colleges and other educational institutions with colourful presentation was a noteworthy phenomenon of the function. Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, his wife Shamim Azad, Minister for School Education Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, Minister for Health and Medical Education Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma, Minister for R&B Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak, Minister of State for Higher Education Mr. Ajaz Ahmad Khan, Minister of State for School Education Mr. Manjit Singh, Minister of State for Industries and Commerce Dr. Romesh Chander Sharma, Chairman Legislative Council Mr. Abdul Rashid Dar, MPs, legislators, corporators, senior officers, political leaders, prominent citizens, media persons, teachers and a large number of children participated in the mega event. Mr. Azad while paying glowing tributes to first Prime Minister of India Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary celebrated as Children’s Day said “Nation is indebted to Nehruji for his remarkable contribution both during freedom struggle and as the first Prime Minister of independent India for laying strong foundations to develop the country on modern lines. He said, he was a great visionary globally recognized who made a mark at the international scene and got a place of prominence for the country in the comity of nations”. Chief Minister said that Pt. Nehru loved children immensely and saw a great future for the country in them, adding that children also loved the late Prime Minister and called him Chacha Nehru with affection. He said that this was the reason that Pt. Nehru’s birth anniversary on November 14 is celebrated every year as Children’s Day. Mr. Azad said that Pt. Nehru was a great son of Jammu and Kashmir for which state is proud of, saying that it is also a great honour for the state that its son has been the first Prime Minister of India. Chief Minister also took salute at an impressive march-past by the contingents of NCC boys and girls and students. Mr. Azad also presented state awards to three teachers and district level awards to 12 teachers from Jammu division. The first state award carried a cash prize of rupees one lakh and a certificate followed by second award of Rs. 75000 and a certificate and third state award of Rs. 50000 in cash and a certificate. Similarly, district level awards comprised Rs. 25000 and a certificate each. Minister for School Education Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed speaking on the occasion paid rich tributes to Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru and recalled his significant contribution in building the country on modern lines. He said it was Pt. Nehru who gave the concept of five-year plan for systematic and integrated development of the country. He said Pt. Nehru was a great champion of democracy, secularism and socialism that became a buzzword for everyone. Peerzada said that Pt. Nehru believed in dialogue process in resolving all issues amicably, adding that the country is following the policies laid down by great leaders like Pt. Nehru. He said it was due to the imaginative policies and vision of Pt. Nehru that the voice of the country was effectively emerged on the international scene. Minister of State for Higher Education Mr. Ajaz Ahmad Khan throwing light on the importance of Children’s Day said that it is a great occasion to recall the contribution of Pt. Nehru for Nation. He greeted the children on the occasion and impressed upon them to follow the ideals of Pt. Nehru to become proud citizens of the country. He also dwelt on the headway made in various sectors of development in the state during the past one year under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad. Minister of State for School Education Mr. Manjit Singh said that teachers are doing their best in all areas of the state to improve the quality of education. He also felicitated the children on this auspicious occasion and teachers receiving awards today. He called upon teaching community to work hard and bring excellence in education sector. The colourful function was organized by Directorate of School Education Jammu in collaboration with Directorate of Colleges, Directorate of Youth Services and Sports, Directorate of Information and Public Relations and Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. The composite cultural programme comprising Dogri, Kashmiri, Ladakhi and Punjabi folk songs and dances was one of the main attractions of the function. Another major attraction was Bharatiyam in which 1500 students took part. |
