Cold revisits Kashmir, fresh snowfall on upper reaches | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Mar 28 : The upper reaches of Kashmir valley , including world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, experienced a fresh snowfall while plains had rains, disrupting normal life.
A Met department spokesman said the Western Disturbances (WD), originating in Arabian sea and entering the region through Afghanistan and Pakistan, will remain active over Jammu and Kashmir during the next three days.
There would be light to moderate snowfall on upper reaches and rains in plains due to WD, he said, adding, sun will also come out in between.
About three to four inches of fresh snowfall was recorded on the slopes since early this morning, sources said. The skiers, including some foreigners, were out on the slopes, already under two to three feet of snow, since this morning.
The Met spokesman said the minimum temperature at Gulmarg was minus 1.8 degree Celsius coldest in the Kashmir valley. About 19 mm snow equivalent to rains has been recorded till 0800 hrs, he said.
The upper reaches in north Kashmir also experienced fresh snowfall since early this morning, affecting snow clearance operation on the roads connecting far flung and remote areas near the Line of Control (LoC) in Bandipora and Kupwara district, with the rest of the valley. These roads were closed for traffic since December last year due to snowfall.
A report from Pahalgam, base camp of holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir, said it was raining heavily since early this morning in the town. Cave and its periphery also experienced fresh moderate to heavy snowfall.
