346 cases pending in courts against gazzetted, non-gazzeted officers | 114 cases under investigation before SVC against ‘corrupt’ officers | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Mar 28 More than 100 cases against government officials are under investigation before the State Vigilance Organisation while 347 cases against gazzetted and non-gazzeted officers are under trial in various courts of the state, the Government informed Legislative Assembly on Monday.The officers against whom cases are pending include senior engineers of R&B, PDD, officers from Revenue, Police, CAPD, Education, Forest, Industries, Rural Development, Social Welfare, Health, LAWDA and other departments. In a written reply to the question of CPI (M) MLA, M Y Tarigami, in the Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah said, “Cases against 114 government officials are under investigation before the SVC. There are 347 cases pending before trial courts against accused gazzetted, non-gazzetted and Corporation employees.”The cases range from fraudulently transferring government land to fake appointments and bribe charges.According to reports Mehboob Iqbal (IAS) who was recently appointed as Commissioner Secretary PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Departments faces two cases. Under case FIR No 8/2009-VOK, the Vigilance is probing a case of illegal transfer of state land at Gulmarg worth crores against Iqbal (then Div Com Kashmir) and then additional DC Baramulla, Farooq Ahmad Shah. Another case pending against Iqbal is in State Sports Council.Former Director Social Welfare, Ghulam Nabi Boda, faces charges in court on account of FIR No 05/200 for misappropriation of government money to the tune of Rs 14,13,715.Some of the officers against whom cases are under investigation before SVC include Mir Naseem Ahmad, then Chief Town Planner Kashmir, Hamid Ahmad, Abdul Aziz Kashmiri, then Xen PHE Sub Division Bandipora, Abdul Hamid Shawl, then Xen PDD Bijbehara, Manzoor Ahmad Dar, then Xen PWD/R&B Khanabal, Zaffar Ahmad Faktoo, then AEE PHE Handwara, Mohammad Muzafar Iqbal, then Deputy Director Social Welfare and Mohammad Yosuf Bhat, then Deputy Director Social Welfare.
