AIKS demands comprehensive rehab of KPs in Valley | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu , March 28: All India Kashmiri Samaj (AIKS), an apex body of Kashmiri Pandits (KPs), today organized a meeting to discuss the burning issues related to the displaced community, here at Kolkatta. Addressing a press conference, Sanjay Kaul,President, Kashmiri Sabha, Kolkata said that Govt. of India should prepare a blueprint for the comprehensive resettlement and rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir. The present Prime Minister’s package needs restructuring that takes into account the aspirations of the displaced Kashmiri Pandit community in terms of their political, economic, social and security concerns. Kaul also demanded bill for the management of Temples & Shrines which has been pending for a long time, to be passed in the Legislative Assembly. The bill, he said, would enable the community to exercise control and manage their assets, as they constitute the only living civilizational symbols of the displaced KPs. He said that left over small number of Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley and other minorities who have braved the intense phase of militancy and are still struggling to survive, should be provided with employment opportunities and other incentives to stay back. Saying that Kashmir is a testing ground for Indian secularism and democracy, he demanded a commission to be appointed to enquire thoroughly into the reasons that led to their mass exodus, to identify people responsible for committing atrocities on them and to bring the guilty to book and also demanded that community be politically empowered.
