BJP’s HRC to reach real victims, work towards protection of their rights
3/29/2011 10:04:58 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Mar 29: The government should frame a policy for permanent settlement of the cases of refugees and internally displaced migrants. These people have suffered a lot for years together and the time has come when a humanitarian approach should be adopted towards them.
A demand to this effect was made by Member of Parliament & National Prabhari of BJP Human Rights Cell while addressing a press conference at party headquarters alongwith BJP National Executive Member Nirmal Singh and state convenor of the Cell Subhash Vaid.
Avinash Rai Khanna, who is one 2-day visit of the state with an assignment to compile details of cases of human rights violations, said that Jammu and Kashmir has achieved the distinction of being a state of refugees and migrants.
Most unfortunate has been the attitude of the state and central governments towards them.
He said that he had meetings with West Pakistan Refugees of 1947, Doda migrants, delegation of Tehreek-e-Insaaf, PoK Refugees of 1947, deputations of Chhamb Refugees of 1965 and 1971 besides visiting migrants’ camps of Kashmiri Hindus.
“I was shocked to know about the plight of lakhs of these people who have been deprived of all such rights which are being enjoyed by Indian citizens in other parts of the country,” he said.
He assured that the party will take up their cases with the Human rights Commission, take legal course besides raising their cases in Parliament.
Nirmal Singh said that the party has taken to decision to constitute Human Rights Cell with a view to reach the real victims and work towards protection of their rights. He said in J&K it has become a routine that security forces are being charged of violating human rights while not even a single world of condemnation has come from the advocates of Human rights when members of minority community are given inhuman treatment, tortured and even killed in police custody.
The government should treat all the people in the state equal irrespective of their region, religion and affiliation, he said.
