| Resolution for grant of ST status to Paharis moved | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Mar 29: JKNPP MLC Syed Mohd Rafiq Shah today presented a resolution before Upper House (J&K Legislative Council) for grant of (Scheduled Tribe ST status to ‘Paharies’ on ethnic grounds.
The resolution was supported by MLC Murtza Khan of PDP and Ajaatshatru Singh MLC.
During the discussion on resolution Syed Rafiq Shah quoted on the floor of House that the ‘Pahari’ people always supported nationalist agenda and since long they became the victim of brutality either in the period of pathan General Kakar Khan, General Kripa Ram, disaster of the state in 1947, militancy since 1989.
Pahari people are deprived from their fundamental, legal, social, geographical and cultural rights and NC-Congress government always exploited the ‘Pahari’ community for vote bank.
The discriminatory policies of NC-Congress government against the ‘Pahari’ people have been exposed when coalition members opposed the resolution for grant of ST status to ‘Paharis’.
. The speech on the issue was endorsed by Ajatshatru Singh, Murtza Khan and Ravinder Sharma MLCs but unfortunately the representatives and ministers of NC-Congress led coalition government are least concerned of the grievances of ‘Paharies’ and they fought tooth and nail so that ‘Paharies’ should not get ST status.
Rafiq Shah said that the only solution to the present discriminatory situation is reorganization of the state. He said that only after reorganization of the state ‘Paharies’ would get the status of ST.
