Farmers exhorted to establish nurseries | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT REASI, MAR 20- To acquint the progressive farmers about latest techniques in the agricultural sector and transferring technology to the fields, a day long training programme was organized by the Sher-E-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technolgy, Jammu here today. The scientists apprised the farmers on the production of quality planting material of sub-tropical fruits in the areas like Reasi. The training programme held under the aegies of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, SKUAST-J, Reasi by the Division of Fruit Science, Chatha was attended by the farmers of the district Reasi. .Dr. Mahital Jamwal and Dr. Akash Sharma, scientists of the Division of Fruit Science, Chatha called upon the farmers and unemployed youth of Reasi district to establish their own entrepreneurs, especially fruit plant nurseries to make them self dependent. The importance of maintaining quality of fruit plants in the nursery was stressed upon by the scientists to fetch a remunerative price in the present era of competition. Dr. Jamwal and Dr. Sharma along with B.N. Singh and Kewal Swaroop demonstrated the farmers about various propagation techniquesin different sub-tropical fruit crops for production of quality planting material. Propagation techniques in fruit plants like aonla, guava, mango, ber, citrus sp., litchi, phalsa, karonda and low chilling peach, pear, plum, strawberry and pomegranate etc. were practically demonstrated to the farmers. More than 50 farmers including women and unemployed youth participated the training programme. |
