Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 29: With people in Srinagar deciding to watch the second semi-final of ICC World Cup between India and Pakistan at Mohali tomorrow (March 30) jointly in their respective localities on big LCD screens, the security agencies will have a sleepless Wednesday night.
The police have been directed to take into custody elements found to engineer protests and demonstrations. The police, according to a local news agency have been directed not to allow people to assemble anywhere in the city without permission.
Section 144 CrPC is already in force in the entire city. According to police sources the law shall be strictly implemented on Wednesday. Strict instructions have been given to prevent any assembly of five or more persons. The police have also urged the people to maintain order. "Display sportsman spirit during the match", a senior officer appealed a few days ago.
The people, however, seem determined to go ahead with the programme. The people of Firdousabad in Batmaloo, reports said have already bought a LCD screen and intend to install it in the local community hall on Wednesday.
The funds for the screen were raised locally. They have also hired a generator to facilitate hassle free viewing of the match, said the reports.
Similar arrangements have been made at several places in the old city. According to reports, a locality has even managed a projector and intends to view the match on a big screen.
The people have also bought fire crackers in bulk. Reports said the purchase of crackers registered an all time high during the past one week.
A section of people, however, seems dismayed over what they call "unfortunate developments". Asharf, a Ranji player from Srinagar said the two neighboring countries are only playing a cricket match. "They are not going to fight a war on Wednesday", he said.
