No major respite from cold in Kashmir, Gulmarg colder than Leh | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Mar 30: There was no major respite from cold condition as upper reaches, including Harwan hills in the city outskirts, had fresh snowfall while plains had rains in the Kashmir valley, where world famous ski resort of Gulmarg with minus 2.2 degree, was colder than Leh and Kargil in Ladakh region.
People in the Kashmir valley continued to wear woollen and warm clothes as there was considerable drop in the maximum temperature due to rains and cloudy sky.
The upper reaches across the Kashmir valley experienced fresh snowfall while plains had rains since last evening.
Fresh snowfall on Harwan heights and rains in plains has resulted in cold in Dal Lake area.
However, the minimum temperature registered an increase by one degree this morning in the summer capital Srinagar, also lashed by rains. It was 6.7 degree this morning against yesterday's 5.6 degree.
Gulmarg, a world famous ski resort in north Kashmir, recorded minus 2.2 degree minimum temperature.
However, despite minus temperature, hundreds of tourists are visiting the place daily.
A hotel owner told UNI over phone that about one feet fresh snowfall was recorded on the Gulmarg slopes since yesterday.
There was also one degree drop in the minimum temperature at health resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir. Against yesterday's 3.2 degree, it was 2.3 degree this morning, a Met department spokesman said here today.
There was improvement in the weather condition in Ladakh region, which remained cut off from the rest of the state since December last year due to snowfall.
At Leh, it was 0.8 degree against yesterday's 0.2 degree and Kargil, a border town on Srinagar-Leh highway recorded 0.2 degree against yesterday's minus 1.5 degree minimum temperature.
