Rs 3 cr assistance to flood affected families of Kishtwar

JAMMU, Mar 30: Revenue minister Raman Bhalla today informed the House that incessant rains during the month of July and August last year had resulted in flashfloods in Koirar nallah of Chanjer,
Marwah.
Due to flooding, a large chunk of agricultural land was washed away. There was also threat of damage to 25 residential houses due to land erosion because of flood.
The district administration swung into action and shifted these 25 families to safer area where they were temporarily accommodated in tents.
The minister was replying to a Calling Attention notice of Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo.
He said that the initial reports revealed that 774 kanals of agricultural land was washed away as a result of which 331 families were affected.
However, on verification by a team of officers constituted by deputy commissioner, Kishtwar, it was found that only 695 kanals and 7 marlas of land was washed away due to which 155 families had got
affected.
Bhalla said an amount of Rs 6.62 lakh was released by Omar Abdullah from chief minister's Relief Fund for the affected families. This amount was accordingly released by the deputy commissioner, Kishtwar
and placed at the disposal of tehsil administration, Marwah, for being provided as relief at the rate of Rs 4,270 per family in favour of 155 affected families.
He said the affected families were also entitled toassistance for the losses suffered by them on account of damage to their land and crops as per the State Disaster Response Fund norms.
The relief money could not be provided earlier due to the non-availability of funds with deputy commissioner, Kishtwar, he informed.
Now that Rs 3 cr had been released in favour of divisional commissioner, Jammu, for placing them with the deputy commissioners under his jurisdiction, including deputy commissioner, Kishtwar,
relief money would be provided to the affected families.
