"Saifullah ki bhookh kabhi khatam nahin hoti" | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 30: Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone today said in the legislative assembly: "Saifullah Mir ki bhookh kabhi khatam nahin hoti."PDP's Zulfkar Ali then rose to his feet and said, "Inke paas dene ko kush nahin hai to bhookh kaise khatam hogi."Earlier, in his Calling Attention notice, Saifullah drew the attention of consumer affairs and public distribution minister towards the situation that had arisen due to the non-availability of foodgrains, atta, kerosene oil and sugar in many villages of Kupwara district, especially Kupwara assembly segment. In his reply CAPD minister Qamar Ali Akhoon said there were 96,599 rationed families in district Kupwara based on the 2001 census. Of them, 12,000 lived in the border areas and the remaining 84,599 resided in muffasil areas of the district, he added. Akhoon said the supply of essential commodities for 84,599 families in muffasils had been provided from April 2010 to February 2011 at the average scale of 41 kg. This included 4,180 Mts of sugar, 3484 Mts of rice and atta and 4,264 kilo litres of kerosene oil. For Kupwara constituency, foodgrains for 11,949 comprising atta and rice at the average scale of 41 kg had been provided. He said 962 Mts of sugar and 1,396 kilo litres of kerosene oil had also been released during this period.The Minister said advance dumping of 71,700 quintals of rice and 18,140 quintals of atta had also been made for the population residing in border areas of the district which was adequate to meet their requirement up to June 2011.He said 3,399 Mts of foodgrians had been allocated to the district for March 2011. Ration was being supplied to all the registered families in Kupwara district, including Kupwara assembly constituency, as per population census of 2001. Hence there was no shortage of foodgrains, he informed.
