Centre to bear brunt of legislators’ pay hike | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 30 :- The Union government, according to experts, will have toi bear the brunt of the hike in the salary and pension of legislators. The hike is going to cost the state additional Rs.1200 to Rs.1700 crores. But keeping view the financial crunch the state is going through, the union government has to bear the cost of the wage bill. The union government, it may be mentioned has been meeting 80 per cent of the amount spent on the wage bill of the employees and on the pensions scheme. The wage bill has already increased to about Rs.1360 crores against Rs.9000 crores in 2002. Similarly the pension scheme costs the Government Rs.2600 crores when it was Rs 556 crores in 2002 and Rs.46 crores in 1992.The recent hike in the salary and pensions of the legislators and former legislators would entail a monthly expenditure of over Rs.11000 crores.
