Lecture-cum-Demonstration on folk music of Jammu region held | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Mar 31: The School of Visual and Performing Arts, Design & Architecture, University of Jammu organized a special Lecture-cum-Demonstration on“Folk Music of Jammu Region” by Pradumn Singh Jindrahiya an eminent folk singer of the State. Jindrahiya dwelt on the various styles in Dogri folk music such as “Bhakhan”, “Karakan”, “Baaran”, “Geetru”, “Bisanpate”, “Bihaiyan” and “Sanskar Geet” etc. Rendering of the songs in chaste Dogri in his mellifluous voice added flavour to the lecture. He further said that we have a treasure of the folk songs and folk instruments, which needs to be appreciated and preserved by the younger generation. He also desired that efforts needs to be done by the Government in this direction. Vocal support and accompaniment on music instrument was rendered by Deep Singh and Jagdeep Singh. N.K. Tripathi, dean students welfare was the chief guest on this occasion. While P.S. Pathania, registrar and director, SVAPADA presided over. In his address Tripathi, lauded the efforts of SVAPADA in organizing the lecture on such an important topic which shall go a long way to develop a sense of appreciation and promote the cultural heritage of the state. Earlier introducing the experts Vijay Atri said that Pradumn Singh is recipient of Duggar Ratna, Sahitya Akademi Award and State Award. He has eight publications to his credits including “Geet Sarovar”, “Phuaran” and “Dogri Lok Geet – Swarlipi Kanney and has performed even in France, Holland and almost all parts of the country.
