3-day Folklore festival concludes | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 31: The three days state folklore festival being organized by Samooh theatre concluded today with the scintillating folk performances. On the concluding day today, reputed scholars of the state presented their research papers. Former Deputy Chief Minister Pandit Mangat Ram Sharma was the chief guest and MLA Bishnah Ashwani Sharma presided over. Yashpal Nirmal presented his paper on Lokkathe da Manvikaran, Dr Rattan Lal Basotra presented his paper on Dogri folk dance form Phuminiyan and Gugail, Urgain Loondup presented his paper on Ladakhi folk dance and other folk traditions, and Dr Neelam Sareen presented her paper on usage of Dogri Idioms and Phrases. In the paper reading session Dr Veena Gupta presided over while Dr Satyapal Shrivatsa, Dr PK Vaid and Honorary Director Samooh Theatre Dr Sudhir Mahajan shared the dais. In his address, Dr PK Vaid said that because of ill treatment of the successive governments, folk dances, music and even languages and dying up fast. Dr Veena Gupta critically examined the papers presented today. In the evening, the concluding cultural bonanza was full of thrill and excitement. Prominent folk dance and singing parties of the state presented their performance at Kala Kendra. Different folk dances were presented including Jagrana, Haran dance, Chhajja dance, Dandaras, Phummniyan, besides other Kashmiri and Dogri dances. Dhani Ram and party, Preeto Devi and party, Om Parkash and party virtually stole the show.
