Digvijay scripts big win for Mathematics | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 31: Brilliant innings of 38-ball 62 runs, including ten boundaries, by Digvijay today powered Department of Mathematics to a superb 36 runs victory over Department of Botany in the inter-department cricket tournament of University of Jammu underway on the campus here. Batting first, after wining the toss, Mathematics set a target f 137 runs for the loss of six wickets in the allotted 20 overs game. In reply, Department of Botany could not maintain the required run rate and completed the 20 overs quota for 100 losing five wickets. Despite Digvijay’s 62, Banarsi also did a fine job contributing 26 runs to the total. From Botany, Azhar Hussain claimed three wickets while Azhar Choudahry, Pourash and Mohan shared a piece each. Later, Botany fell short of 36 runs to match the opponent total making 100 runs in allotted 20 overs quota for the loss of five wickets. Anil Sharma and Khalid were main scorers with 43 and 17 runs respectively. Qasim and Vicky claimed two and one wicket respectively from Mathematics. Meanwhile, in another match of the day, Law School registered a three-wicket win over Department of History to move into the next round. Batting first, History set a target of 106 runs for the loss of eight wickets, which, in reply, Law School chased in 14.2 overs losing seven wickets. Today’s matches were officiated by JD Singh, Vijay Dogra, Raj Kumar and Manu Khajuria.
