24 hours power supply to metered areas: Shabir | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 31: As per government policy, 24 hour power supply is provided to areas which are 100 percent metered to encourage metering of the consumer installation throughout the state and also to discourage wasteful consumption of power. This information was given by Minister of State for Power, Shabir Ahmad Khan while replying to a question by Naresh Kumar Gupta in Legislative Council today. Minister said that 7872.875 metric units have been consumed in the state up to December and an amount of Rs. 1422.61 crore has been fixed as revenue for the year 2001 including electricity duty. He said that targets for power revenue are fixed annually at provincial level, keeping in view a number of factors, besides energy consumption, such as dispersal of various categories of the consumers in the two regions as different tariff structure has been fixed by the regulator viz, J&K SERC for different categories of consumers and the transmission / distribution losses. Khan said that mismatch between the registered connected load of the consumers with the department and the actual peak demand / consumption, which is far in excess of the registered connected load, strains the power system necessitating power cuts of 8-9 hours in the areas which are not fully metered.
