Govt upgrades health centres on population, distance basis: Sham | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 01: Asserting that the government opened and upgraded health institutions on the basis of population, distance and bare minimum need, health minister Sham Lal Sharma today said the state had a total of 280 allopathic dispensaries and 180 medical aid centres. In written reply to a question by Vikar Rasool in legislative assembly, he said while emergency hospital at Banihal was already functional, necessary action was being taken to formulate a detailed project report for construction of a Trauma Hospital there. A proposal for the establishment of primary health centres at Pogal and Neil in Banihal had been submitted to planning and development department, he added. Sham said the department was at present assessing the minimum requirement of each constituency in the state for opening and upgradation of various health institutions on the basis of population, distance and bare minimum need. A detailed report in this regard would be submitted to the planning and development department, he added.Earlier, Vikar said there was an emergent need to open health centres at four Banihal villages, including Pogal and Neil, as these remained cut off from the rest of the area for at least six months in winters."In case of any mishap in this villages, the victim may bleed to death by the time he is shifted to the nearest health centre," he asserted.
He also informed the House that in view of importance of healthcare, the health department is making every possible effort to provide adequate number of doctors, paramedical staff in the Government hospitals all over the State. Replying to a Call Attention Notice by A.R. Veeri, he said that there is some shortage of doctors/ para medical staff in SDH Bijbehara and PHCs at Marthama, Khiram, K. Kalan, Sirhama. Giving details of staff position in the health centres, he said, adequate doctors paramedics are posted in there. He said as against 123 sanctioned strength 106 are in position to man the health services in these centres. Mr Sham said that all the vacancies of doctors and paramedics, which become available from time to time, are being promptly referred to the concerned recruiting agency, viz the Public Service Commission/ Service Selection Board. He said that department is making continued and vigorous efforts to overcome the shortage of doctors/ para medical staff and as soon as the select lists of candidates against vacancies become available, their deployment shall be promptly made to augment manpower in various health institutions.
