Gulmarg with -3.1 degree coldest in Kashmir, Leh recorded -3.4 | | | EARLY TIMES Srinagar Apr 1: : Gulmarg, the world famous ski resort, was coldest in the Kashmir valley after the minimum temperature dipped to minus 3.1 degree this morning while Leh in Ladakh region recorded minus 3.4 degree.Light rains this morning resulted in cold after the minimum temperature was about two degree above normal in the summer capital, Srinagar, where the timing of government offices and educational institutions was changed from today. A MeT department spokesman said the minimum temperature in Srinagar has improved by about three degrees this morning against 4 degree, one degree below normal yesterday, it was 6.8 degrees. However, people continued to wear woollen and warm clothes while students could be seen in winter uniform because of the cold winds. The famed ski resort of Gulmarg, which attracts a large number of tourists and skiers daily, was coldest in the valley with minus 3.1 degree minimum temperature. Spokesman said Gulmarg recorded 1.8 mm rains till 0800 hrs this morning. However, the slopes remained under two to four feet of snow, much to the delight of tourists. Pahalgam, health resort in south Kashmir, recorded 1.2 degree minimum temperature. However, people continued to shiver in Ladakh region, which remained cut off from the rest of the state due to closure of the Zojila pass on Srinagar-Leh national highway. More than ten feet of snow had accumulated at Zojila, where the government has decided to construct a tunnel to make it all weather road. MeT spokesman said the minimum temperature at Leh was minus 3.4 degree. Temperature of border town of Kargil and Drass, the second coldest place in the world after Sibera, was not available, he said
