Relatives of militants are given passports: Minister
4/1/2011 9:06:20 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar, Apr 1: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Friday denounced allegations that relatives of militants are not being given passports.
In the legislative Assembly, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Mohammad Sagar made it clear that relatives of the militants are being issued passports without any hitch, provided they are not involved in any subversive activities.
Responding to the point raised by independent member Engineer Abdul Rashid in the assembly, Sagar said that the directions given to this effect by the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah are being implemented in letter and spirit.
"As many as 250 cases have been cleared since the direction was issued," he said.
"Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khoda has convened a meeting recently relaxing certain rules also," Sagar said.
He, however, made it clear that no applicant is provided passport if he is himself involved in any militant activities.
