JKPA warns of intensifying their agitation, if demands not met | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Apr 1: In protest against the failure of the government to come up with a concrete policy to provide employment to the unemployed physiotherapists Jammu Kashmir Physiotherapist Association (JKPA) held a protest outside the Director Health Services (DHS), Jammu. Raising anti-government slogans, protesters alleged that administration has befooled them and warned that they would be forced to intensify their agitation. Speaking on the occasion, JKPA president Vimal Singh alleged the way the government intends to recruit physiotherapists, there is every likelihood that it will led to back door appointments. He also demanded that Government should constitute a body to register physiotherapists and issue licenses for practice of their profession. Another member of the association Akash Manhas said that the physiotherapy is one of the important streams of medical science and keeping in view the increase in the lifestyle related diseases, there is immediate need of thousands of professionals in this stream. “Our state has totally neglected this sector despite the fact that in every hospital hundreds of patients need the services of these professionals”. Later the delegation members called Director Health Services, Jammu, Ashok Sharma and apprised him of their problems. Those who met Director include Vimal Singh Manhas, Pardeep Mahotra, Akash Manhas, Jyoti and Neha. They demanded that already identified vacancies should be filled by proper advertisement before any appointment as contractual or adhoc basis. Association has demanded that all the para-medical staff working in Physiotherapy Department in the hospitals should be removed. “All the physiotherapists should be registered and license for practicing this stream should be given to them”, he said. The demanded from the state government to absorb all the Physiotherapy Doctors through PSC in the grades equivalent to the proper Medical Faculty standards, to open Physiotherapy Departments up to each and every PHC level, The director heard to and discussed all the demands patiently. He assured the delegation that he will personally look into the matter and appropriate action will be taken.
