Sitlee II, III phases increased 5.4 MGD water in Jammu: Taj

JAMMU, Apr 01: Present potable water requirement of Jammu city is 45 MGD out of which requirement of Jammu west constituency is around 23 MGD.
This was stated by Minister for PHE and Irrigation Taj Mohi-ud-Din in reply to a calling attention notice of Prof Chaman Lal Gupta. He added that total availability of potable water at present stands enhanced to 19.50 MGD in Jammu West constituency after adopting number of corrective measures. Therefore, net shortfall of 3.5 MGD exists in Jammu West constituency as of now.
He said that with the commissioning of project Sitlee Phases II/III at an estimated cost of RS. 6260 lakh the potable water supply to entire Jammu city has been increased by 5.4 MGD giving relief to water scarcity areas viz. Chinore, Bantalab, Roop Nagar, Janipur, Subash Nagar, Rehari, Sawwal and New Plot in Jammu west besides augmenting water supply to Karan Nagar, Gali Nariyana, Ustad Mohalla and other areas of Jammu East.
Taj said that under the aegis of ERA 10 Deep drilled tube wells in Jammu West constituency have recently been drilled by ERA at Science College Boys Hostel, Dental College, Relief Commissioner Office, JDA Park Indira Vihar, Raipur, Talab Tillo, Rehari, Bakshi Nagar, G;ukraha, Shakti Nagar and new Plots areas of Jammu west Assembly constituency.
In addition to these, OHT’s stand constructed at Ram Mandir, janipur State-IV Indira Vihar, Shakti Nagar, Rajpura, Relief Commissioner office and Bakshi Nagar for systematic and phased improvement of water supply. The supply will improve further once additional tube wells which are proposed to drilled under Tranche- II ERA come up in the stated areas of constituency namely ITI complex Akhn oor Road, Bakshi Nagar PHE pumping station.
During such an eventuality water supply is supplemented through tanker service. In certain areas of Jammu East consistency needs replacement of old worn-out pipes which is proposed to be covered in Tranche- II by the ERA in the systematic manner, it is however maintained that the quality of water is made available to entire Jammu city including Jammu west constituency and periodical laboratory tests of water are made and leakages/ ruptures of any are attended to on top priority.
