Sagar goes two steps ahead to praise information deptt

JAMMU, Apr 2: Minister for Rural Development Ali Mohammed Sagar today appreciated information department for its efficient and professional coverage of government policies and programmes on regular basis.
He said that department is highlighting government activities to facilitate public through electronic and print media. Replying to another question on behalf of the Chief Minister in the Legislative Council, he said that Information department is playing pivotal role in highlighting policies and achievements of the government in various languages including Urdu. It endeavouring to promote Urdu language by issuing daily press notes, he said adding department also publishes journals in Kashmiri, Urdu and Hindhi.
He said that effort of the department is quite appreciable and government hopes that the department would continue its endeavours to disseminate development and welfare programmes of government for benefit of the masses. He said that Aks-e-Parvaz programme sponsored and produced by department and telecast through Doordarshan in Urdu has wide viewership and popularity across the State.
This was stated by the Minister in reply to a question by M. Y. Taing today in the Legislative Council. Minister said that Urdu wing of the department contributes substantially in the overall working of the department. He said that department religiously adheres to the practice of providing press notes in Urdu for newspapers published in Urdu in the state on day-to-day basis.
Sagar said that Urdu unit of the department is headed by a senior officer of the rank of Deputy Director in the directorate. He said under his supervision one Assistant Director, One Information Officer, one editor, two Assistant Information Officers, one stenographer, one typist, one Urdu typist are working in the section. He said that department has already released a publication in English highlighting the achievements registered by the government during last two years in the State.
Minister denied that the department has stopped publication of quality journals. He said that quality literary and publicity journals like Tameer, Aalov and Kashmir Today are being published periodically. There has been delay in finalizing the contracts for publication of journals in English, Urdu, Hindi, Kashmir and Dogri languages, adding the department has, however, released publications including Aalov in Kashmiri, Tameer in Urdu, Yojana in Hindi and Kashmir Today in English during 2010-11.
