PWF compensation given in addition to relief: Akhoon | Victims of road accidents | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 2: Jammu and Kashmir Passenger Welfare Fund (PWF) rules provide for payment of compensation to the victims of road accidents travelling in a commercial vehicle. This was stated by Minister for Transport Qamar Ali Akhoon while replying to calling attention notice by Ajay Sadhotra. He added that compensation is sanctioned by a committee under the chairmanship of concerned Divisional Commissioner in the respective divisions. Akhoon said that payment of compensation under the Passenger Welfare Fund is made in addition to any other relief which may be sanctioned by the government. Minister said that committee has decided to pay ex-gratia relief of Rs. 3,25,000 in favour of the dependents of the deceased and victims of mini bus accident which took place at village Kussar Nallah for 13 dependents at Rs. 25, 000 per dependent. He said that a payment of ex-gratia relief of Rs. 1, 50, 000 has been sanctioned in favour of 15 seriously injured persons @ Rs. 10,000 per person. He said that a payment of ex-gratia relief of Rs. 1, 35, 000 has been sanctioned in favour of 27 minor injured persons at Rs. 5000 per person. Minister further said that compensation under the Passenger Welfare Fund has not been disbursed in any case as the mechanism laid down by the Finance Department requires that the remittances to the Passenger Welfare Fund have to be transferred from Mufasil Treasuries to the Civil Secretariat Treasury. The process is on and the amount so deposited in the fund is likely to be operated soon on receipt of this amount in the Civil Secretariat Treasury, in favour of all the affected families of accidents of the year 2010 onwards.
