| CGEWCC meet: Railways wins badminton title | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, April 02: Beating Survey of India (SOI) 2-0, Railways clinched the team championship in the Central Government Employees Welfare Coordination Committee (CGEWCC) held at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here today.
Earlier, in the semi-finals, Railways defeated Indian Institute of Integrated Medicine (IIIM) 2-0 while SOI beat National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) 3-2.
The veteran singles trophy went to Balbir Jamwal, who beat K K Sharma in straight sets 21-16, 21-10 in the final. In the semi-finals, Balbir Jamwal beat Mahesh Sharma 21-19, 21-08 and KK Sharma outplayed Dushant Sharma 21-16, 21-12.
In veteran doubles, the pair of Subash and Vijay of Railways won the final outplaying Dushant and Shashi (SOI) 21-16, 14-21, 21-18. Semifinals: Subhash and Vijay bt Balbir and Gulzar 21-19, 21-12; Dushant and Shashi bt Mahesh and Raghubir 21- 13, 21-10.
Meanwhile, the cricket tournament of the CGEWCC shall start from April five at MA Stadium, here at 9 am. In the opening match, NSSO has been pitted against Archeological Survey of India (ASI).
