PDP opposes ‘Private Property Tax Bill’ | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, April 3: Senior leader of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and MLA Darhal Choudhary Zulfikar Ali today said that decision of the State Government to refer the controversial Private Property Tax Bill to the Joint Select Committee of both the Houses is the vindication of his party’s stand against this anti-people Bill. In a statement issued here today, Choudhary Zulfikar Ali said that during the debate on this Bill in the Assembly he along with his colleague Basharat Bukhari had given some amendments to make it people friendly and to delete some clauses of the Bill. He regretted that instead of accommodating genuine suggestions of the opposition, the government was haste to get it passed in the Assembly. Choudhary Zulfikar Ali reminded that entire opposition had opposed the Bill due to some anti-people provision in it and had staged a walkout when government had passed the Bill from the Assembly. He said that decision of the State Government to refer it to the Joint Select Committee of Assembly and Legislative Council is a clear indication that stands taken by PDP was genuine. He said that government had referred the Bill to the Joint Select Committee due to the pressure from different quarters of people. Choudhary Zulfikar, who had staunchly opposed the Bill, reminded that PDP has termed the Bill as draconian and anti-people and government too had admitted its mistake.
