Week long birth anniversary celebrations of Jagjivan Ram begins | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, April 3: Minister for Cooperatives, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma today inaugurated week long 104th birthday celebrations of former Deputy Prime Minister, Babu Jagjivan Ram at Swankha Morh Vijaypur today. The function was jointly organised by President, J&K West Pakistani Refugees’ Action Committee (WPRAC), Labha Ram Gandhi and President Gandhi Global Family (GGF), S P Verma. Addressing the function, Dr Manohar highlighted the contribution of Babu Jagjivan Ram in making India self- reliant and prosperous especially the weaker sections living in backward areas of the country. Paying rich tributes to former Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister said that the late leader was a multifaceted personality who lived life of a Karamyogi and his amazing talent, his phenomenal ability, his historic achievements and his great dreams for his people can never be forgotten by the people of the country. Describing Babuji a Messiah of the downtrodden, the Minister said that the leader fought for the cause of social justice since his student life and continued to fight his whole life for securing better status for the under privileged. President, GGF, S.P. Verma while addressing the function said that Babu ji, a noble soul had the credit of saving the nation from severe drought in 1967 and making it self-sufficient in food for the first time in history. President J&K WPRAC, Labha Ram Gandhi also threw light on the life of Babu Ji and paid rich tributes on his 104th birth anniversary. Later, the Minister distributed souvenir and a book on the life of Babu Ji, written by Manjul Kumar among local leaders of Samba and other districts of Jammu province.
