JAMMU, Mar 3: A cheater, who used to strip gold from people by washing jewellery in a strong acid solution, was today apprehended at Nikowal in Arnia area of Bishnah.
Police sources said the cheat went to Amit Kumar's house at Nikowal in the morning and told his wife that he would polish her gold jewellery at a cheaper rate. The woman, who was taken in by his words, gave him her gold jewellery. However, after the cheat washed the ornaments and returned them to the woman, she found that these had become lighter, the sources added.
She raised an alarm following which the cheat was apprehended by the people and later handed over to police.He was identified as Sanjay Kumar of Bihar. Police recovered from his possession a bottle of acid and the gold which he stole while washing ornaments.A case was registered against him at the concerned police station. His sustained questioning was on.
