Zamindar customers increase by 10 pc after Omar Tweet | IGP, DIG, SPs throng highway Dhaba to taste Rajmash, Roti | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 3: Immediately after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah drove all the way to Sarror on the national highway, alongwith his family, last week to relish the desi rajmash and roti, Zamindar Dhaba has registered 10 percent increase in its customer base. A number of Police and Civil officials were among hundreds of fresh customers who enjoyed the pride of being the Chief Minister’s followers in the last few days.
A group of senior Police officials, including an IGP and a DIG, tasted the sumptuous desi cuisine at Zamindar this evening. “Our sales are static around Rs 15,000 per day but the rush of customers has increased by around 10 percent after Omar Sahab and his family relished rajmash and roti with us last week. We have a limited seating capacity. So, all the increasing customers go back disappointed or drive to other dhabas on the highway between Bari Brahmina and Vijaypur. Some of them definitely wait till they get a seat”, Dhaba owner Milkha Singh’s son, Ravinder Singh, told Early Times.
Singh said that the senior Police officials had sent their juniors and got the entire space booked for this evening eight hours before.Resident of a village in Ranbir Singhpura, Sigh had set up the Dhaba 20 years back. He revealed that Omar was the second Chief Minister to have visited Zamindar in the last five years. “Mehbooba Mufti too visited us when he was Chief Minister”, Singh said with a confusion on the name. Zamindar is a nondescript wayside eatery where customers devour on rajmash, roti, kadi, kheer and lassi on dirty plastic chairs. Flies outnumber the customers on the ordinary wooden tables. Staple food of the highway dhaba enthusiasts, rajmash is cooked in open air on two huge metallic containers on a choolah. “400 to 450 customers used to visit us daily until last week. The number has grown to around 500 a day but we don’t have extra capacity of obliging them. Some of them go to other dhabas but few others wait for a chair”, Singh said. So what drives Omar to Zamindar? Many in Jammu insist that Political Advisor Devender Singh Rana made so rosy a mention of the eatery that Chief Minister decided to break his ennui with a trip. Fed up with the 5-Star raazmataz, the politician of impulses discovered an all-new medium of obliging his family with an altogether new feast. But others claim that Omar took a cue from Rahul Gandhi’s trait of sharing Dhaba cuisine with poor villagers in Uttar Pradesh and other states. Few in bureaucracy hold the belief that Omar had been religiously following his arch rivals in the Mufti dynasty in many things. Beating them even in dhaba eating, they insist, was in the CM’s subconscious mind. Omar had lost no time in telling the world through his widely growingTwitter wall that he had at last scaled the Zamindar.
