I will resign, if ‘land grabbing' allegations proved: Lal Singh
4/4/2011 9:48:38 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, April 4:
Countering the allegations leveled by BJP MLA on ‘land grabbing’, Member of Parliament representing Doda-Udhampur constituency Choudhary Lal Singh termed the allegation false and frivolous and said he would resign as MP if the allegations of ‘land grabbing’ levelled against him by the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) were proved correct.
He however, said that he will file breach of privilege against BJP MLA and seek explanation from MLA.
Addressing a press conference here today, Lal Singh said, “Whatever the BJP MLA Jagdish Raj Sapolia alleged against me is totally baseless…. “I am being targeting because the said member could digest the development activities which he undertook in his parliamentary constituency ……….. Since the Panchayat elections are on cards, I think the accusation is nothing more than to settle political scores”.
“Fortunately enough the papers handed over to the Speaker by Mr Sapolia have no bearing as my name was not mentioned anywhere in them,” he added
''It is a matter of dignity for me and I will resign as Member Parliament if the BJP MLA proves 'land grabbing' allegations against me,'' the MP said and added that in case the Member fails, he should step down.
He, however, demanded enquiry into the matter and hinted at filing a defamation suit against the BJP MLA.
Lal Singh said that the data presented by the member in Legislative Assembly is false and Sapolia should substantiate his allegation. “I ask the member to prove them or be ready to face the legal action”, he warned.
It is pertinent to mention here that BJP legislator from Basohli Jagdish Raj Sapolia in State Legislative Assembly on April 1 alleged that the Congress MP Choudhary Lal Singh and senior Congress leader Gulchain Singh Charak have grabbed kanals of government and forest land and also produced documents in support of his claims on the floor of the House.
