APSCC alleges discrimination with Sikhs | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, April 4: Alleging discrimination with the Sikh community in Jammu and Kashmir, the All Party Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) today gave a 15-day ultimatum to the state government to resolve their problems. APSCC has decided to organise a World Sikh Political Conference here in June and issue a "white paper" on Kashmir. Despite repeated assurances by the Centre and state government, the Sikhs in Jammu and Kashmir continued to face discrimination at all levels since 1947, it said. "We urge Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to provide us the details about the steps being taken by the government for the community within 15 days," APSCC chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina told reporters here. He said, "We do not want any undue favour but resolution of our genuine demands, which included granting minority status to the Sikhs, proper census and share in Prime Minister's special package for migrants." Mr Raina warned that if the government failed to provide the details about the measures being taken to resolve the problems being faced by the community members, the APSCC will put the matter before the masses of the nation. "We will highlight how the Sikhs in Jammu and Kashmir were being discriminated by the government," he said, adding despite facing all odds members of the community stayed back in the Valley. The community witnessed Chatisinghpora, Poshkriri and Mehjoor Nagar massacres, inquiry reports of which had not seen the light of the day till date, he said. Challenging the census conducted in the state, he said the apprehension of the APSCC was again ignored. "All the Sikhs were not included in the census because of their migration from their native place to city and towns," he added.
