Gulmarg coldest at minus 7.4 degree
No respite from cold in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, April 4:
There was still no relief from the cold in the Kashmir valley, where the world famous ski resort of Gulmarg with minus 7.4 degree was colder than Ladakh region.
A Met department spokesman said cold conditions would prevail till April 10, barring on April 7 when the weather will improve.
During this period, there could be rain or snow in the Kashmir valley, he said.
There was no relief from the cold as the temperature dropped further because of snowfall on upper reaches and intermittent rains in the plains.
However, the ski resort of Gulmarg, 55 km from in north Kashmir, recorded minus 7.4 degree minimum temperature this morning, coldest in the valley. It was about three degree below than yesterday when it was minus 4.6 degree.
Despite the cold, hundreds of tourists and skiers, are visiting thetourist resort daily, skiing on the slopes covered under two to four feet snow.
The fresh snowfall and minus temperature has extended the skiing season till last week of this month, experts said.
Icy cold winds continued to sweep health resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir, where the minimum was recorded minus 1.4 degree this morning against yesterdays minus 0.2 degree.
There was slight drop in the minimum temperature in the summer capital, Srinagar, where people continued to wear woollen and warm cloths, besides using Kangri and other gadgets to keep themselves warm.
Against yesterdays 3.8 degree minimum temperature, it was 3.6 degree this morning.
Temperature in other parts of the valley also witnessed drop because of snowfall on upper reaches and rains in plains.
The Ladakh region, which remained cut off from the rest of the state following to closure of the Zojila pass since December Ist last year, remained under the grip of cold because of further drop in the temperature.
Against yesterdays 0.4 degree, it was minus 2.6 degree at Leh this morning while border town of Kargil recorded minus 1.4 degree minimum temperature against minus 1 degree yesterday.
