My own flock is together for LC polls, says Soz | Rules out dissensions within Cong or coalition | | Early Times Report Jammu, April 4: In run up to the polls for six Legislative Council seats, as the ‘political activity’ is getting hot, the J&K Pradesh Congress chief Prof Saif-u-Din Soz plays it cool maintaining that his ‘own flock is together’ and there are no dissensions, whatsoever neither within his party nor between the main alliance partners of ruling coalition. “ I am concerned with my own flock……my flock is completely united ……I am not bothered with other parties…..”, Prof Soz said while dismissing the speculations and rumours about Congress not being a cohesive lot in so far as the voting for the elections is concerned. Exuding confidence about the ‘success’ of the coalition partners, the PCC chief said both the candidates of the Congress as well as three candidates of NC will certainly emerge victorious in the ensuing polls. “There is no question of dissension at any level…….these are all rumours and speculation based reports in some sections of media…”, he asserted.
In so far as the political activity is concerned the PCC Chief has engaged himself in what can be seen as building a ‘positive and meaningful rapport’ with all concerned including the MLAs of his own party. “ I am leaving no effort in ensuring success for the coalition candidates……..whatever votes are there which count in terms of victory are certainly with us…”, he said adding that he has already ‘connected’ himself with the members in order to explain the voting pattern and scheme of division of votes for every seat. There will a specific number of votes which are required for a particular seat either from Kashmir Valley or for two Jammu votes. It is pertinent to mention that as per the pattern in Kashmir seats, it is a foregone conclusion that opposition PDP shall have smooth sailing in grabbing at least one. However, some scope of political tussle remains there for at least one Jammu seat. But the PCC chief appears not be bothered by the apprehension of what the political circles are agog with the rumours of some sort of attempts being at ‘horse trading’ from some political quarters to ‘ grab’ the Jammu seat.
Prof Soz, a veteran politician who has always tried to grease the wheels of coalition so that it could stay on despite some hurdles and occasional hiccups, also ruled out any differences with its coalition partner over seat sharing in the Legislative Council polls. “ It is an odd number that coalition has to get because as per the pattern of voting it is clear that one seat will go to PDP…….had there been an even number, the sharing would have certainly been equal……”, the PCC chief explained adding that it has already been agreed in principle , rather a pre decided matter that in the event of af an odd number NC shall get one extra than Congress. “The coalition has no differences. We have total unanimity and have arrived at consensus to contest five seats in elections to Legislative Council’” he maintained. He , however, refused to divulge or comment as to why Congress first let two candidates from Kashmir to fill in their papers and later pull out from the contest. As per the ‘ararnegement’ the NC will contest in three seats, two from Valley and one from Jammu and Congress will contest in two, out of which one is reserved for Poonch.
