workshop on Gender Budgeting held

UDHAMPUR, APRIL-05:- With a view to inculcate Gender Sensitivity among public servants by formulating policies and programmes of respective government departments, a 2-day workshop cum training on “Gender Budgeting” has got under way in the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner’s office at Udhampur today. The workshop for officers of district Udhampur is being organized by J&K Sate Commission for Women (JKSCW) and sponsored by the Ministry of Women and Child Development (GOI).
Chairperson, J&K State Commission for Women, Advocate Shamim Firdous was the chief guest and District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Mr. Baseer Ahmed Khan presided over the inaugural session.
In her inaugural address, the Chairperson, JKSCW said that Gender Budgeting is a concept to address the needs of women who have remained neglected in the society adding that the concept would also help to improve economic governance and financial management as women empowerment is need of the hour for socio economic development and government is endeavoring to empower the women folk of the society by providing them equal chances of upliftment in every sector.
The Chairperson said that the government has initiated a number of schemes for welfare of women which need to implemented in latter and spirit at grass root level. She called upon the women to come forward and avail maximum benefits from these schemes especially designed to ameliorate their socio economic status.
The District Development Commissioner in his address lauded the efforts of J&K Sate Commission for Women for holding workshop of vital importance in Udhampur district. He said that empowerment of women through different ways and means has already been taken up by the different departments through various schemes. He said that different schemes have already been implemented by the different departments which mainly include Social Welfare, Rural Development Health and Medical education, Education, SC & ST Corporation etc for the empowerment of women in the state.
