Participants rue foul play over the delay
Drama Festival results hanging fire without reason
4/5/2011 10:43:52 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Apr 5: Nearly 10 days after the Annual Drama Festival conducted by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages has concluded, the much awaited result of the same has not been announced, reason best known to the Academy officials.
Since the last play of the competition came to a grandeur close on March 27th, the results thereof the competition were expected to be out on 29th March itself as per the ethical ritual, the delay in announcement of the same has started raising fingers on the integrity of the institution which already is knee dipped in controversies over many issues.
The recent delay in announcing the results of the Annual Drama Festival has added another pinch of suspicion over the conductivity of the Academy’s affairs which is being rued as ‘ last minute manipulations’ being done, thus leading to its impediment.
“Since the panel of judges is appointed to weigh the artistic display of the drama enacted by different groups roped in by the Academy after clinical scrutiny of their participation, withholding or delaying of the results amply hints over some suspicious maneuvering which seems unethical and unreasonable too,” said a festival participant unwilling to disclose the name.
He added that since judges deliver their verdict on the last day itself, Academy lingering upon it is sending apprehensive waves of distrust among the participants who are sensing some ‘foul play’.
“We see no reason as to why Academy is withholding the result which has put on stake the aspirations of many potential winners’ beliefs on a fulcrum of uncertainty. The decisions should have been on spot which certainly does not contains any ‘out-of-box’ expertise to be added into it after the judgment is released by the panel,” said a director of recently concluded Drama Festival who intends to file RTI over the outcome, irrespective of the nature of the result announced.
Here it is pertinent to mention that inspite of the result still making rounds in the corridors of the Academy, the whisper mills are agog over the nominations of the actors, actresses, directors et.al, having won and lost in the competition.
“This is again a strategy embarked upon by the close informers of the competition to disseminate a fake information among the participants to feel their pulse and settle down the hype before the “result of choice” is declared,” said another theater doer who says have been the victim of such practice for many times.
Twelve plays of different concepts, artistic blends and genre were performed in the concluded Annual Drama Festival that kick started on March 15 and ended on a great fanfare on March 27.
