Opposition to field common candidate for 6th LC seat
4/5/2011 10:46:42 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu,April 5:- The PDP, Panthers Party and the BJP are likely to field a common candidate for the 6th Legislative Council seat.
Political experts believe that out of the three seats in the Kashmir valley, the National Conference is poised to win two seats and the third seat could be bagged by the PDP. According to them, the Congress has the potential of winning two out of three seats in Jammu if there are no defections within the Congress legislature party. The Panthers Party is contesting one seat and can win it if BJP and PDP support it.
The working chairman of the Panthers Party, Harshdev Singh believes there could be no problem for the PDP if BJP agrees to support the PP candidate. Pertinent to mention, the PDP may find it embarrassing especially in the Valley to support a candidate who enjoys blessings of the BJP.
Harsh said that when the BJP can form an alliance in the centre in 1998-99 with the National Conference facilitating Omar Abdullah to be a member of the union council of ministers it should have no problem supporting either the BJP or the Panthers party candidate.

He said that the National Conference leadership had been so much infuriated by Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz voting against the vote of confidence which had been moved in the Lok Sabha, that he was expelled from the party.

Dev said that by supporting either the BJP or the Panthers candidate in Jammu region, the PDP can get our support for in the valley.

He said even though the polling is scheduled to be held after eight days "we are in touch with the BJP and PDP leaders." "We want a common candidate to be fielded against the ruling alliance so that it remains content with four seats,"he stated.

Dev said in case there was no consensus among the PDP,Panthers Party and the BJP the ruling alliance will win five out of six seats. He said "choice is with main opposition parties."
