| Kashmir bar boycotts golden jubilee of J&K high court | | | Srinagar, July 29 : The Kashmir Bar Association (KBA) boycotted the diamond jubilee function of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, also attended by President APJ Abdul Kalam here today.
The members of the KBA, including its president Mian Abdul Qayoum, did not participated in the celebration held at Sher-e- Kashmir International Convention hall on the bank of Dal lake.
However, a large number of advocates were seen sitting in the hall while others were accommodated outside in another hall watching the proceedings on a big screen.
Besides Dr Kalam, Chief Justice of India, Y K Sabarwal, Governor Lt Gen (retd) S K Sinha, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, his cabinet colleagues, Chief of Jammu and Kashmir high court Justice Bashir Ahmad Khan and chief justice of different state high courts participated in the celebrations.
However, the KBA president Mian Qayoum said that holding of the jubilee celebration three years of scheduled date was ''rubbing salt on the wounds of the people of Kashmir.'' The celebrations are nothing but to show outside the world that situation in Kashmir was normal when actually Human Rights violations by the security forces are going on without any check he said, adding that ''How can we celebrate the diamond jubilee when court orders are not being implemented by the security agencies, particularly Jammu and Kashmir government. Despite court directions, detenues are still in jails without any reason.'' The KBA yesterday staged a dharna near the court complex and raised pro-freedom slogans.
They also demanded immediate release of detenues and stop of Human Rights violations in the valley.
