| 8 militants killed in Kupwara | | | Srinagar/Jammu, Nov 15 At least eight militants, including a section commander of Hizbul Mujahideen, and a jawan were killed and four army personnel, including a Major, were injured in three separate encounters in Kupwara district of North Kashmir and Doda district of Jammu region. Sources told News Agency of Kashmir acting on a tip off security forces launched a massive search operation in forest area of Gulgam in district Kupwara, during the wee hours, today. “The suspected militant hideout was cordoned off and a search operation was launched by 31 Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operation”, defence sources said adding, “A fierce encounter followed, which led to killing of three militants”, they added. When the troops were just zeroing in the hideout they came under fire from the hiding militants, reports from the area revealed. One army jawan was killed on the spot, while four others, including a Major, were injured. The identification of the slain militants was not ascertained immediately. Huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter. A defence spokesman said that four militants were killed in a separate operation in Village Sanglianpati of Lolab. The input about the presence of militants of the militants was reportedly provided by the local residents. “Police was informed about the presence of a group of militants in the house of Bashir Ahmed”, a senior police officer told News Agency of Kashmir adding, “Special Operation Group of Police and 17 Dogra launched operation leading to the killing of the militants”. Meanwhile, Police claimed to have killed one militant of Hizbul Mujahideen in Gool area of District Udhampur, here last night. Official sources told News Agency of Kashmir that on specific information troops of Border security forces and SOG Gool raided a house in a village, late last night. The lone militant, who was hiding in the house, opened fire on troops and a firence encounter took place between the security forces and the militant, which continued for about one hour. Sources said that the militant was gunned down and one AK 47 and one wireless set was recovered from the possession of the slain militant, sources added. He was said to be section commander of Hizbul Mujahideen. |
