Police reopens Major Randish Dogra's alleged suicide case after 7 years | | | Early Times Report Rajouri, Apr 5: Jammu Kashmir police have reopened the mysterious death case of an army major which it had closed in 2003 terming it as suicide as maintained by the local army unit where he was posted. On the instructions of Jammu Kashmir high court, police has constituted a special team with SSP Rajouri as head of the panel to probe the case again as the family of the deceased smells foul play in the death and they have refused to buy the suicide story prepared by the army unit he was serving in. Sources said that in the year 2003, an army major identified as Randish Dogra then posted with 123 Mountain Brigade was found dead in Kandi area of Rajouri district. At the time of his death, army had claimed that his death apparently was caused by a bullet he had fired in his neck. Army had then declared it a suicide case and an FIR was lodged with police station Kandi at that time. Taking army version as final, police closed the case with the remarks that Major Dogra had committed suicide with his service weapon but the reason behind the suicide was not mentioned and investigated at all. After more than seven years of the incident, family members of Major Randish Dogra belonging to Samba district of Jammu Kashmir came to know that the suicide story was cooked up by army. Official sources said that JL Dogra father of deceased Major Randish Dogra approached to Jammu Kashmir High Court and got directions issued to police to re investigate the case. Sources said that on the directions of High Court, Director General (DG) of Jammu Kashmir police constituted fresh panel of investigation with SSP Rajouri as its chairman. Sources said that the fresh panel reopened this case and is preparing to call the then commanding officer of the unit. |
