Employment of youth should be SDM’s bottom-line: Omar | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, April 06: Pin pointing the importance of Skill Development Mission (SDM) in tackling unemployment crisis, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah said that the bottom-line of the mission should be to enhance employment of youth and catapult their chances of absorption in open job market. Chairing the first meeting of Jammu and Kashmir Skill Development Mission here, the Chief Minister directed to carry forward the mission successfully and meaningfully and to achieve the targets as per the drawn road map. The J&K Skill Development Mission envisages enhancement of employability by way of skills development to as many as 40 lakh youth in next 11 years. The Mission has target to accomplish the stupendous task by the end of 2022. Omar Abdullah directed for reviewing the policy by a Committee headed by Chief Secretary to finalize the draft in a time bound period so that a well planned road map is put in place to realize the goals under the Mission in the State. “I want a concretized and well-knit policy for Skill Development Mission where under we could make the necessary dent regarding enhancing employability of youth in a planned and scientific manner”, he said adding that the ultimate aim should be transferring un-employability into the employability. The meeting was attended by Minister for Finance, Abdul Rahim Rather, Minister for Rural Development, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Minister for Technical Education, R. S. Chib, Minister for Industries, S. S. Slathia, Minister for Higher Education and Employment, A. G. Malik, Chief Secretary, Madhav Lal, Economic Advisor to Government, Jalil Khan, Principal Secretary Agriculture, Mohammad Iqbal Khandey, Principal Secretary Planning, Khurish Ahmad Ganai, Principal Secretary R & B, K. B. Agarwal, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, B. B. Vyas, Commissioner Secretaries for Finance, Housing, Higher Education, Employment and various other department. The Chief Minister stressed on creating befitting and competent faculty for undertaking the task of imparting trainings to the youth in various skills of market value. “The available personal and institutions for the purpose need to be identified and if needed ways and means adopted to create a necessary pool in this regard”, he said. “At the end of the day our focus should be on enhancing employability in youth as per the market requirement rather than imparting routine trainings in the trades having little or no market value”, he told the concerned department. In a PowerPoint presentation Commissioner Secretary Technical Education, B. A. Runiyal presented the features of the draft policy in detail explaining various provisions and procedures to implement the Skills Development Mission successfully in the State. |
