Training Zone spoils sport

Tension brewed when athletes from Training Zone disrupted the proceedings by making an undue entry in to the playing arena of boxing event at Gulshan Ground, here. The unsporting crowd of fresh recruits, including Probationer Sub-Inspectors (PSI) under training in the state police, not only halted the competition but also resorted to stone pelting on the boxing ring thereby causing minor injuries to the participants.
However, the rude crowd of Training Zone was stopped from further damage by athletes from other participating zones of the J&K Police present there to witness boxing event.
The tension erupted when Training Zone supporters objected a decision of the referee officiating a semifinal bout of 56 kg between Parshotam (Intelsect) and a PSI.
Since such an ugly scene has happened for the first time in the history of Police Sports Meet, the chief refree of the boxing competition, Inspector Satyakam has recommended disqualification of the Training Zone boxing team. However, the organizing secretary, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Armed, K Rajendra has favoured amnesty for the team but assured sure action against those involved in the scuffle and stone pelting.
“We will examine the video clippings of the incident and identify the culprits for initiating action against them. Since fresh recruits represent the Training Zone and are at learning stage, we always have a safe corner for them,” said the ADGP.
