Expedite restoration works of quake damaged school buildings : Bhalla | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, APRIL 07- Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Mr. Bhalla today impressed upon the Directors of School Education to personally monitor the reconstruction of school buildings taken up under National Calamity Relief Fund (NCRF) following earthquake of 2005. Addressing a meeting convened to take appraisal of the schools reconstructed under NCRF, he said government is keen to augment infrastructural facilities to facilitate the students to have access to the quality education. The Minister said achieving 100% literacy calls for ubiquitous presence of educational institutions with good infrastructure and qualified teaching staff. He said opening and upgradation of hundreds of schools over the years is a step in that direction. The Director School Education, Jammu informed that about 110 school buildings were damaged in Poonch, Mandi, Surankote and Mendhar blocks due to the earthquake for which repairs and renovation works have been taken up at an estimated cost of Rs. 328.12 lakh. He said the funds were utilized in full by September 2010 and the balance amount of Rs. 254.55 lakh needs to be released to complete the spill over works in the district. Later, the Minister also visited Pacca Talab in Bahu Fort and flagged off shoba yatra of Goswami Guru Nawa Dass ji Maharaj, organized by management of Guru Nawa Dass Ji temple Bahu Fort in connection with celebration of 438th birth anniversary of Guru ji. On the occasion, the Minister also released a book on the life of Guru Ji. Hundreds of devotees joined the Shoba Yatra which passed through various bazaar of the city of temples and culminated at Sarwal Shiv temple.
