Heritage complex, alleges MMBA | Deliberate attempts to destroy Mubarak Mandi | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, April 7: Mubarak Mandi Bachao Andolan ( MMBA) has demanded that Palace complex should be handed over to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for preservation and restoration. Addressing a press conference, noted Dogri writer Narinder Singh Jamwal said that it is the only way to save the heritage of the Dogras which has been unnecessarily dragged into controversy by the government. He said that only ASI has necessary technical know-how and resources to save the palace complex. “Most of the historical monuments in the country have been handed over to it for protection and preservation why the palace has not been given to them. It seems that deliberate attempts are being made to destroy this heritage”, he said. Members have demanded that any funds raised by the present body should be given to ASI so that it can utilize it better rather than taking up unprofessional projects and keep check on any misappropriation” Organisation has also taken exception to the recent order of the government handing over control of the complex to an NGO. “It is surprising that that control has been passed to NGO which has no knowledge to deal with the historical monuments and most of the members are non professionals when it comes to deal with the heritage buildings”, said Hari Chand Jalmena, coordinator of the Andolan. Members alleged that since the Court complex and other offices were relocated from the area, the complex has become quite controversial. “We fail to understand why the administration has made it a political issue, it is a common heritage of the state and collective efforts are needed to save it for the future”, they said. Those who addressed the press conference include, Gianeshwar Sharma, Mohan Singh Dogri writer and Udey Chand.
