Distance mode students up against Govt; seeks end to discrimination
4/7/2011 11:29:37 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Apr 7: The students who have obtained degree through distance
education mode has expressed resentment over the Government decision
not to entertain their degrees for Government jobs as well as for
pursuing higher studies in state universities. This afternoon, they
assembled near Press Club and protested against this arbitrary decision
of the State Government.

They argued that the degrees obtained by them were issued by the
recognized universities approved by National level regulating bodies
such as UGC, AIU, DEC etc.
The recent advertisement published by SSRB has categorily written that
the distance mode degrees will not be accepted but higher education
department had mentioned that all students who are admitted shall be
allowed continue to study till conclusion of their courses. It is
astonishing to note that on the one hand govt allows to continue the
education through distance mode but on the other hand impose
restrictions.
They expressed "We fail to understand the resons as to why our state
govt. is so rigid, why fundamental right of education is being killed?
Why the govt is forcing us to pursue education from local universities
even when lot many options are available to study through distance & on
line mode of education.
Many pass outs have secured jobs in MNC, PSU and Govt. department etc.
finally we would like to apprise your good self that the distance
education has brought a new ray of hope among the students
community therefore restrictions if any will bring there further under
could.
They demanded from the Government to accept their degrees for all
purposes and made slection for jobs through entrance test.
