Seminars, functions mark World Health Day | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Apr 7: Functions and seminars were held throughout the day on the World Health Day on 7th April, every year to mark the foundation of WHO. Various organizations participated with different items on the occasion. A seminar was conducted in ASCOMS on the occasion which celebrated WHO that has selected the “Theme & combat Drug Resistance - no action today, no cure tomorrow” . WHO has launched a worldwide campaign to safeguard antimicrobial medicines for future generations? Step in this direction has taken under the guidance of V.K. Gandotra, Prof. & Advisor Academics of ASCOMS and Hospital where in a CME was organized to highlight the mechanism & the problem of antimicrobial resistance. The topic was introduced by R.P Kudyar, Prof. & H.O.D Medicine, following which the public health aspects of anti microbial resistance were deliberated upon by Kiran Bala lecturer, Department. of Community Medicine. As the excessive use of drugs is the major cause of development of resistance, the concept of “Rational use of antibiotics” was stressed upon by Archana Parihar, Asstt. Prof. Deptt. Of Pharmacology.Mechanism of Antimicrobial resistance in bacteria & use of antibiotics in ICU were explained respectively by Dipender Kaur from Deptt. Of Microbiology & Guneet from Deptt. Of Anaesthesia . Meanwhile Army School Akhnoor celebrated ‘World Health Day’. Col S.N Bhaduri alongwith team Capt Savita & Capt Harleen delivered lectures on this special occasion. Captain Savita highlighted on the proper use of medicines and to avoid self medication, she said over use of antibiotics can create problems as well if they are not taken under the proper guidance. She also emphasized on destroying expiry medicine, Col. S.N Bhaduri threw light on what exactly is the meaning of antimicrobial resistance and where this resistance develops with in the body of human or with in the micro organism and he suggested the different ways of prevention. Col SN Bhaduri interacted with teachers & students. Students visited the stall installed by 310 Fd Hospital in school and got more info about medicines. Principal KCS Mehta welcomed Col SN Bhaduri and his team for their efforts and dedication. Vote of thanks was extended by Anita Gupta. G L S Public School, Amar Colony, Gole Gujral Road, Jammu too celebrated World Health Day today. Children were asked to carry health tiffin box containing one or two cooked vegetables, chapatis, salad and some fruits. They were told the importance of washing hands with soap before meals and after meals and were taught table manners. The children were also briefed about simple tips useful in day to day life for their good health and pamphlets were also handed over to them so that they could relook into the matter, remember it and implement those habits in their day to day life. On the occasion a special health awareness lecture was organised for the students of PAHL, an initiative of the Damodhar Satri Udyog Sanstha,. Keeping in mind the sensitivity of the theme PAHL teachers informed the students about the health benefits of regular health checkup and educated them not to indulge in self medication. The students were advised to visit nearest doctor even for minor ailments and warned against popping pills without any consultation. Over 150 children, enrolled under project PAHL, were also informed about the health benefits of handwashing with soap and consumption of boiled water especially during peak summers to prevent illness. The students were informed that the practice of handwashing is among the most effective and inexpensive ways to prevent diarrhoeal diseases and respiratory infections.The PAHL students were also informed about the health benefits of consuming pure drinking water. On the occasion founding member Damodhar satri Udyog sanstha, PAHL teachers, Sukanya Chib, Jasmeet Singh and Sunita Chandra delivered lectures and educated the street and underprivileged children about the need to visit nearest doctor whenever required and avoid popping pills on their own. On the occasion the PAHL students also took pledge to spread the message of leading a healthy life and consulting a nearest doctor.
