Avoid repressive policies, address grievances: BJP to Omar
4/7/2011 11:33:02 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Apr. 7: Expressing anguish over apathetic attitude of the government against the protesting employees on the streets of Jammu, BJP has cautioned Omar Abdullah to avoid repressive policies and address their grievances.
The present ruling government has been using brutal force against any one who protests for his or her rights democratically as enshrined in Article-21 of the Constitution of India and also the State Constitution.
Protesting for the rights is not illegal but the State government is treating such protestors, be it the technocrats, physiotherapists asking for jobs absorptions or State government employees demanding arrears. They are being treated as criminals when they demand their rights and have to meet wrath of police lathi-charge. It confirms that the state government treats peace loving nationalist people as criminals. This was alleged by BJP State spokesperson Nirmal Kamal while addressing media persons at party headquarters on Thursday.
Nirmal Kamal, while expressing party’s full support to the agitating government employees, said that in a democracy every individual has right to register protest in a non-violent manner for what has been denied to him or her.
Unfortunately, in our state police is used to silence the voice of peaceful protestors while VVIP treatment is meted to those who raise anti-India slogans, burn tricolor, demand Azadi and indulge in seditious activities.Nirmal said that our state has become a place of protests, dharnas and agitations as there is resentment against the government. There is hardly any one who is satisfied with the functioning of NC-Congress coalition. She asked the government-why the employees are being lathicharged and arrested? Why these people are not paid what they deserve? Why the government, instead of facing these protestors directly, is brutally using police force on the pretext of law and order problem. Exemplary cases will set the society cautious approach against corruption. Besides Nirmal Kamal advocated appointment of State Lok Pal very strongly if the state government is really interested in root out corruption in the state of Jammu and Kashmir which has been ranked No. 2 corrupt state in entire country which of course is not a matter of cried. The government which is habitual of making high claims of ending corruption has adopted a complete silence over several issues of under utilization of Centrally sponsored funds, shady deals in brokering of government buildings and various land scams as reported in the media. Omar’s sincerity to what he speaks lies in execution not in befooling public.
