Kashmir resolution remains PDP’s core issue

SRINAGAR, 7 April: Reiterating resolve of her party to continue its strive for the peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir problem, president of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti today said that core issue of her party remains the resolution of this vexed problem.
Addressing meeting of senior party leaders and activists in connection with the coming programme of the party to hold tehsil wise demonstrations for the peaceful resolution of Kashmir problem on April 9, PDP president observed that this problem cannot be put under the carpet anymore because solution of this issue was must for establishing lasting and sustainable peace in this region. “Some concerted efforts needed to be taken to create any atmosphere for starting a meaningful process for solving this problem”, she said and added that this issue would not be disappeared without resolving it so there was a need to initiate some visible steps.Mehbooba said that the PDP will continue to highlight this and other related issues so as to create an atmosphere conducive for taking some effective steps.
She, however, said that for creating an atmosphere of trust, that was conducive to the resolution, it was necessary to stop repression and to release the political prisoners and innocent youth. It was also time for serious and visible action on reduction of forces in civilian areas and revocation of draconian laws like and Distributed Area Act (DAA) and Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA), she said.
Calling upon the party workers to make the forthcoming programmes successful, she said that her party would use all the available forums within the state and in the country to bring Kashmir problem into focus and put it in the right perspective.
“There is a need to create awareness among the people so to evolve consensus on the solution of this problem”, she said.PDP chief pointed out that party had organized impressive demonstrations on January 4 at Jammu and on January 19 at all over the state followed by another impressive rally at Jammu on February 14 for the resolution of Kashmir problem. She further informed that party’s two public meetings one at Srinagar on February 26 and another at Jammu on March 13 had evoked massive public response which was a clear indication that people of Jammu and Kashmir want solution of this problem. She especially mentioned that turn out at Jammu rally which was held at Parade Ground was historic and unprecedented. She said that ongoing campaign of PDP revolves round its demand for a peaceful permanent resolution, reduction of troops from civilian areas, revocation of AFSPA and release of innocent youth and political activists. “The party is also highlighting failure of governance in the state under the present coalition led by National Conference”, she said, adding, “The inability of the government to provide basic amenities and brazen sale of sale of government jobs would also be the focus of the party during the protests at all tehsil headquarters”.
