Dogra Brahmin Pratinidhi Sabha honours Governor | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, APR 8 – The Governor, Mr. N. N. Vohra, today called for strengthening society and collectiveness by working together to take Jammu and Kashmir to the highest pinnacles of growth and prosperity. In this context, he observed that all of us need to work together unitedly to ensure a safe and promising future for the coming generations. The Governor was addressing after releasing a Calendar titled “Dharam Bhaskar” at a function organized by the Dogra Brahmin Pratinidhi Sabha at Parade, here. This Calendar has been prepared by the Dogra Brahmin Pratinidhi Sabha to harmonise the time and dates of various religious festivals by making calculations based on the local latitudinal and longitudinal readings. Referring to the Calendar, the Governor said that it is based on scientific work and suggested that it should be sent to the University of Jammu, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan and other institutions of higher learning so that continuous work could be done to secure its further refinement. He assured his support, if any was required for this purpose. Referring to the Dogra Brahmin Pratinidhi Sabha, the Governor said that it is a very old organization which has been doing laudable work for the society. He congratulated the Sabha for its initiative to bring out the Calendar. The Governor was honoured by the Sabha by presenting to him a Memento and a shawl The function commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Governor and the Saraswati Vandana. The Member of Parliament, Madan Lal Sharma, urged for declaring restricted holiday on Parushuram Jayanti in the State and called for popularizing the Calendar. He added that greater unity of the people of all the three regions of the State is the key to prosperity of J&K. Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, MLA, congratulated the team of scholars for putting in hard work to bring out the Calendar. He complimented the Sabha for bringing people of different communities on a single platform, adding that service to the society at large should be the motto of all of us. Ashok Khajuria, MLA, complimented the Sabha for taking various initiatives aimed at the welfare of the people. In his welcome address, the President of the Sabha, Ved Prakash Sharma, dwelt on the history and evolution of the Sabha, its activities and the future plan of action. He expressed his gratitude to the Governor for being the Chief Guest at the function. He gave away certificates to those who have contributed financially for publishing the Calendar.
