Give NCC training to youth, allow people to curb terrorism, Kalam
7/29/2006 6:46:23 PM
Srinagar, July 29 : Stressing the need to provide NCC training to all the students in school and colleges, President A P J Abdul Kalam today said citizens must be allowed to participate in large numbers for curbing terrorism in the state.

Addressing diamond jubilee celebrations of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court at Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Complex on the bank of Dal Lake here, Dr Kalam said for promoting faster development of the state, restoration of peace is essential.

He said there are four important components--economic zone near the Line of Control, social development in difficult areas, state level movement to eliminate terrorism and citizen security-- which can help the state to move forward in all respects.

Dr Kalam said all the citizens should be allowed to contribute in curbing terrorism in the state.

We must give NCC training to our boys and girls in schools and colleges, he said.

''I would like to share with you all the distinguished members of the judiciary, The peace mission for Jammu and Kashmir'' as your actions will reinforce and speed up the peace movement in the state which is essential for the development and prosperity to Jammu and Kashmir,'' he said.

Schools and colleges should promote value based education, right from primary education. To promote discipline among students, the Centre and State Governments can also consider introducing minimum two years of compulsory NCC training for all students in colleges or the schools.

The judiciary must consider creation of a fast judicial process for settling terrorism related cases, Dr Kalam said.

Politics should be above violence against citizens and the State Government should create a conducive environment for all Kashmiris who had left the state to return and contribute to the growth of the state.
