The stench, emerging from this area, rotten vegetables and waste scattered here and there is what welcomes you to this big business house of this city, which satisfies the demand of grocery of lakhs of people of Jammu city. Drains filled with filth and mud and heaps of garbage scattered here and there, it is all what receives you as you steps into this market. For their convenience, the traders even dump the waste vegetables and left outs just in the mandi premises where ever they find some place as no one is there to check or to impose restrictions on them. This is one of the busiest markets in the city where business of crores is done every day, but it is big question as how the business community survives in such an environment. Not only this, the stray animals are in abundance there. These animals roam here and there and get easy food in this market, so it is their favorite destination. It can be said that the sanitation of this place is totally ignored by business community of this area. If feels as if except business, no one is bothered about the hygiene of this place, a place where big business transaction takes place. Eventually no body seems to own the responsibility for maintaining the hygiene of this place which has resulted in further deterioration of this place. "The track which leads to Mandi is full of potholes. It is moreover a coaster ride to go on two -wheeler there and in the Mandi. The stench emerging from this market is unbearable. Even the people who reside nearby face enormous problems but now it is a routine for them. ," says Nitesh Kapoor, who visits this market quite often. " Only slight shower and the market gets water logged and it becomes almost impossible to walk in this market. Hardly one can find road anywhere, the journey is almost through the mud and stones and in the premises it is only filth and mud and heaps of rotten vegetables which are the most common sites," he adds. "Vegetables and fruits are supplied to the whole city from this market. It is a very busy market as vegetable stop all the grocery shops in the city are supplied from here. Even the small vendors, rehri walas all visit Mandi for vegetables, so there remains influx of he traders throughout the day, and due to shortage of proper place and negligible sanitation it has become a garbage yard," says Avtar Jandial, a businessman. "Though it is said that hygiene should be maintained atleast when we are taking about the food stuffs," say Ravi Singh, a resident of the area. 'This market is the favourite destination of the stray animals. After grazing there these animall keep roaming in the residential area and it at times it becomes even impossible to cross the road as these animals sit in groups on road, but no one is worried about all this", he adds. Whereas the business men in the market on the basis of anonymity says that it is the duty of the business community to maintain the hygienic, but it seems as the authorities are least bothered businessman to maintain the cleanliness of this biggest Fruit and vegetable market in the city. |
