Strong Lok Pal Bill needs to be drafted, passed: FEPEE | | | EARLY TIMES Jammu, Apr 10: FEPEE, an NGO of J&K organised a function of civil society members who expressed their happiness over Central government’s acceptance to draft the Jan Lokpal bill with full participation of representatives of public with 15th August as the dead line, and 72 years old, Anna Hazare has agreed to suspend his fast after 5 days of agitation. They felt that it's a huge victory --- but the key now is to keep building the pressure so that a strong bill is drafted 'and passed into law. The gathering at Press Club today congratulated the team of Anna Hazare for building confidence among people of India, where speakers from all walks of life participated enthusiastically and spoke vehemently against corruption. The emphasis was on affairs of our state which is neck deep in corruption. The speakers were of the opinion that it is sad that the civil society in J&K state has yet to awake and exert its strength. Some politicians, businessmen, police and bureaucrats have created such a nexus in J&K that "Aam Aadmi" is taken as sheep or goat, which can be pushed to corner or slaughtered by this corrupt gang without caring for" law of land and dignity of people. The Chief Minister of J&K knows that India is considered amongst highly corrupt countries of the world. J&K and Bihar in India are labeled as two top most corrupt states of India. Understanding the blot on the face of the state administration, Omar Abdullah declared 2011 as "The Year against Corruption". Dr.Vijay Puri, Convenor of the programme said that, "Corruption in politics has become a plague across our country; it is draining our resources and demoralizing our nation. The Jan Lok Pal Bill for which Anna Hazare started an agitation, would go a long way to deter those who steal national resources and undermine the public good. India has a proud history of people power overcoming oppression. Today if we all stand with one voice we can fight this corruption that is poisoning our political system. Only four days ago when questioned by media, the CM Omar Abdullah evaded the sensitive reply by saying that a decision to set up Lok Pal in the state was a policy decision and could only be taken by the cabinet. The question is, when that decision will take place by the cabinet which is led by none other than the Chief Minister himself. A former telecom minister is awaiting trial after being accused of siphoning off billions of dollars from fraudulent sales of telecom licenses. Indians were shocked when allegations emerged that apartments in Mumbai intended for war widows were in fact given to civil servants. CWG corruption is in lime light. Last month the head of the country's anti-corruption watchdog was forced to resign by the Supreme Court on the grounds that he himself faced corruption charges. He said that it is a matter of relief that Anna Hazare has shown us the non- violent Gandhian way of protest.
